Summer 2022 10 Week ADHD Neurofeedback Program
NeuroMeditation Institute is offering a 10 week summer neurofeedback program for clients of all ages. We understand that scheduling, especially for our school and college aged clients, can be particularly difficult to navigate. So, in an effort to accommodate these busy calendars, our program will begin after the typical school year lets out, beginning the week of June 20th, and accepting clients on a rolling basis.
At our clinic, we utilize simple computer based games or movies of the client’s choice to create a comfortable backdrop for training the brain. Often this means encouraging the decrease of slow brainwave activity and increasing fast activity. The goal is to develop more flexibility in the ways the brain is able to pay attention and process information. When successful, this form of therapy can lead to improvements in many of the symptoms associated with ADHD.
What happens in a neurofeedback session?
A typical session begins with the placement of sensors on the head and ears using a sticky paste. These sensors measure brainwaves throughout the session, and serve only to measure the electrical activity. In other words, the sensors are one way, and do not put anything into the brain. Next, the technician pulls up a simple game or movie on the computer. When the brain creates the desired rhythm, the game or movie plays normally and a soft bell chimes in the background, rewarding the brain’s efforts. If the brain slips out of that desired pattern, the game or movie will slow, stop, or dim in light and sound until the brain returns to the desired pattern. The final result is, that with repetition, the brain goes more and more often into that desired pattern until it becomes habitual.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are brainwave changes from neurofeedback permanent? In general, improvements from neurofeedback appear to be stable. In some instances, however, major life challenges such as head/brain injuries, extreme stress, and trauma can cause a recurrence of symptoms. This can often be managed with maintenance sessions that typically involve 2 or 3 "booster" visits.
Are there negative side effects? Like any treatment, there is always the possibility of negative side effects, although they tend to be rare with neurofeedback. At times, clients have described experiencing minor negative effects, such as an increased need to sleep in the first few weeks of treatment, dizziness, or headaches. However, most of these effects are resolved with a good nights sleep, or a minor adjustment to the treatment protocol.
Can I use my medication while doing neurofeedback? Yes. If you are beginning a new medication, we advise that the client wait at least two weeks to allow the brain to get used to the new effects before beginning neurofeedback treatment.
Does my insurance cover neurofeedback treatments? The NeuroMeditation Institute is considered an out of network provider. However, we can supply you with a code that you can use to query your insurance about reimbursement.
