What is NeuroMeditation®?
NeuroMeditation is a brain-based approach to the practice of meditation. This system is founded on the understanding that each style of meditation has a different impact on the structure and function of the brain. This knowledge can be used to identify which meditation practices are most likely to help you achieve your goals.
Our Mission
The NeuroMeditation® Institute is dedicated to helping people access the benefits of meditation in the most effective and efficient ways possible. We believe that everyone can develop or deepen their meditation practice if given the right information, tools, and support. Through classes, professional training, and technology assistance, we strive to improve the relationships, mental health, and overall well being of our communities.

History:
The concept of NeuroMeditation dates back to the 1960’s when pioneers in the field of neurofeedback began exploring ways to combine EEG biofeedback tools with meditation techniques. Interest in this approach waxed and waned over the years as techniques changed and brain monitoring equipment became more sophisticated. In 2014, Dr. Jeff Tarrant, expanded on this early work by identifying 4 different styles of meditation that could be examined and trained with neurofeedback. This study was published in the book chapter, “Neuromeditation: An Introduction and Overview” in the Handbook of Clinical Qeeg and Neurotherapy. Shortly after this publication, Dr. Jeff began teaching workshops on this technique around the United States, Canada, and Germany. In 2016 he moved from Columbia, MO to Eugene, OR and opened the NeuroMeditation Institute. At that time, it became clear that the ideas and concepts taught in the EEG NeuroMeditation trainings could be translated to practitioners that did not have access to neurofeedback equipment. In 2017, Dr. Jeff published the book, “Meditation Interventions to Rewire the Brain” and expanded the work of the Institute to include a research program, weekly classes, and a professional certification training. The Institute continues to grow with a team of providers stretching across the United States and in 13 other countries.
Jeff Tarrant, Ph.D., BCN | Director & Founder
Jeff Tarrant, PhD, BCN, is a licensed psychologist, board certified neurofeedback specialist, and one of the field's most innovative practitioners at the intersection of brain science and human potential. He is the founder of the NeuroMeditation Institute and Psychic Mind Science, serves as Executive Director of the Expanded States of Consciousness Research Institute (ESCRI), and serves as Chief Neuroscientist for 40 Years of Zen.
Dr. Tarrant’s coaching practice is built on a straightforward premise: the brain can be trained. Working one-on-one with clients, he draws on a variety of technology-based interventions, neuromeditation, and targeted lifestyle strategies to cultivate optimal brain performance. For those drawn to the further edges of human potential, this work also extends into intuitive and psychic development — explored through the same neuroscience-grounded lens.
He is the author of Becoming Psychic and Meditation Interventions to Rewire the Brain. Dr. Tarrant played a key scientific role in the Telepathy Tapes podcast — one of the most listened-to podcast series of 2024 — and is featured in both the upcoming Telepathy Tapes documentary and Superhuman 2.
